A Kitchen Rooster Brings You Luck

Throughout separate cultures the rooster has been a sticker of many things one of the most predominant is luck. Having some form of Rooster in your kitchen is said to bring you luck and could just make you feel good. Here is a itsybitsy more facts about Roosters and Rooster folklore.

First a itsybitsy bit about real Roosters. They do not lay eggs and are not needed for egg production, but are required if you want baby chicks. They are protective of the flock and will defend the family from predators. They can be tamed, and become devoted pets if handled and worked with often.

They can crow at anytime together with night time. Crowing marks territory, so the fewer roosters the less crowing. One rooster per flock is all that's needed. In fact a hen house with more than one rooster is just request for trouble. You can keep a rooster subordinate if he is smaller than the biggest hen. Which, means she runs the show.

On my beloved island of Oahu, wild roosters have reigned for over a thousand years. I did find it a bit strange when I was at an outdoor Bbq eating chicken and a rooster walked up and was standing by my table. But wild Roosters and chickens have been roaming free on this beautiful island for centuries. In fact on Oahu if you ask "Why did the chicken cross the road?" the acknowledge would likely be "to get to the beach".

In Portugal there is the Galo de Barcelos, the national sticker of Portugal. Which is a Rooster symbolizing honesty, integrity, trust and honor. The town of Barcelos is well know for its porcelain and the most beloved sticker is the Rooster. There are tons of stories and folklore from separate cultures about Roosters. The Rooster symbolizes many separate things.

I remember watching a story on the news last year about a wild Rooster living in Manhattan. He was wreaking havoc on the around neighbors sleeping habits. A farm recovery group from upstate swooped in and tried to catch the rooster. First attempting to lure him with food, a female rooster, and even a red blanket. The crafty rooster didn't fall for any of these tricks.

Finally a resourceful rescuer was able to capture him with a net. Now instead of disturbing urban sleepers the crafty rooster gets to retire upstate. With lot's of girlfriends, fresh air and unlimited snacks. Not bad considering, anyone fate he must have escaped from, to be roaming the streets and neighborhoods of Manhattan.

In Chinese astrology habitancy who are born in confident years have a rooster sign. These habitancy are practical quick thinkers who don't like to take unnecessary risks. They enjoy a keen sense of information and all the time seem to know what's going on. Rooster's are level transmit and love honesty. The rooster has a trusting behavior and yet is not de facto fooled.

Roosters can be perfectionists and expect to be in control, especially when it comes to their looks. They have high standards of dress, conduct, and neatness, and expect the same of others. Roosters need a partner that understands their conservative nature but is not too laid back. The rooster should probably focus on valuing heart and soul above good looks. Piquant to the Roosters logic of live and let live may be a good method for dealing with the roosters overly controlling ideals.

The rooster is a sticker of many things to many cultures. What I like best about the rooster sticker is having one in the kitchen is supposed to be a sticker of luck, health, and prosperity. Either it's a rooster clock, cookie jar, wall paper, dish towels, trivet, or just a ceramic rooster sitting on the back of the stove watching over the kitchen. Looking a kitchen rooster not only makes me feel at home it makes the whole kitchen warm and comfortable and inviting. I think I like it best because it gives me that feeling of nostalgia, like when I was young, eating cookies in my grandmother's kitchen.

Wheelchair Accessible Kitchen Or When the Chef Has Wheels

I get many questions with regard to details of an accessible kitchen. Questions like, what is the standard countertop height from the floor to the top of the counter, or what is the standard toe-kick. The list goes on and on.  Are there extra appliances or cabinets? In this article I will cover the basics, cabinets, flooring, lighting, electrical, and finally appliances.

Cabinets
Most cabinet manufacturers offer exact Ada compliant cabinets which will give you a final countertop height of 32" from the floor to the top of the counter. They will also include the proper toe-kick of 9" high by 6" deep. This provides room for the foot rest of a wheelchair to slide under the edge of the cabinet. This any way does not contribute entrance to the cook-top or sink. The base cabinets that will house these items will need to have knee space under the countertop. Now upper cabinets gift a distinct set of problems. Even if they are installed at the standard height above the base cabinets only the bottom shelf will be accessible to someone seated in a wheelchair. I personally like to lower them someone else 6" so that the bottom two shelves are accessible. Or you could save the price and just leave them out. One last item, the base cabinets should have large deep drawers instead of cabinet doors, as these are more accessible.

Flooring
The flooring should be hard surface, such as wood or ceramic tile or stone. You should avoid any kind of flooring that has give or is cushioned. This kind of floor makes it difficult to move a hand-operated wheelchair around as does wall to wall carpeting or area rugs. Avoid these items if at all possible. Even the most innocent of kitchen rugs can be a risky tripping hazard for the disabled or elderly.

Lighting
With today's need to be green, lighting for the accessible kitchen is no longer thought about specialized. The use of Cfl (Compact Florescent Light) bulbs and Led under cabinet low voltage task lighting is coarse place. So the only thing that beyond doubt needs to be said is that you need to contribute task lighting in all food preparation areas.

Electrical
This is one area that is often overlooked as far where and how to setup electrical outlets and switches in an accessible kitchen.  Wall outlets are ordinarily located behind the base cabinet, whether above or in the backsplash. For someone seated in a wheelchair this means they have to make a risky reach in order to use the outlet. It is best to setup the outlet in the face of the base cabinet, just under the countertop. Or a popup multi-outlet can be installed in the countertop itself within easy reach of the wheelchair occupant. Switches should be located at 48" above the floor so that they are within reach of the wheelchair occupant. Use rocker type switches for those with itsybitsy use of their fingers. finally outlets that are on a wall without cabinets should be at least 18" above the floor for a safe reach in a wheelchair.

Appliances
While there is no need for specialized or convention appliances, unavoidable types of appliances are best in an accessible kitchen. Let's start with the stove for example, a approved range cannot be used, A cut off cook-top and oven unit will need to be used. As mentioned before the cook-top will need a knee space below the cabinet. The oven should be mounted in a base cabinet so it can be beyond doubt loaded and unloaded. A heat unyielding outside at countertop level should be provided to place hot pans on. Next a drawer type dishwasher can be mounted conventionally and beyond doubt accessed from a wheelchair. However, a standard front loading dishwasher will need to be raised 9" to make it easy to load and unload. The sinks will have to have rear mounted drains to allow for the knee space under and still allow for a disposal. The microwave should be mounted below the countertop. finally the refrigerator should whether be a side by side model or a French door model with the freezer on the bottom.

There are probably other items that you can do to make a kitchen even more accessible. Try sitting in a standard kitchen chair in front of a question area and ask yourself what can I change, that will make this area more accessible.  I hope this helps those of you who need to make your kitchen more accessible for a wheelchair. If you have any questions don't hesitate ask. Remember breath Peace and God's Love.....

White Kitchen Cabinets and Kitchen compose

Today the most favorite type of home improvement homeowners are wanting and doing is kitchen remodeling. Kitchens are the main attraction and social center of your home for preparing meals for your house and for friends a comfortable place to socialize and gather. Kitchen make and planning is most leading step for you to achieve the personal look, practical use and customized to meet you and your family's lifestyle and needs. One of the most favorite colors kitchen designers pick is white. White kitchen cabinets can be used to make a subtle make statement or portray a very dramatic distinctive look. The color white speaks for itself and depending on the style of kitchen cabinetry and door style you can generate a look that fits your personality. White kitchen cabinets are used for many distinct decor such as contemporary, traditional, country, French country, English, shaker and many more. There are also many choices of material used for kitchen cabinets like; plastic laminate, white painted wood, high gloss lacquer, vinyl foil, white stain and white washed discontinue - all having their our make statement. Each of these styles has a distinctive look and can reflect your own personality.

White kitchen cabinets make color choices for accessories and countertops somewhat easier to pick an accent color theme throughout the kitchen and surrounding rooms. Using white color cabinetry in any of the styles mentioned can achieve a make which is classic and stay stylish for years to come. Contemporary style white gloss finishes give a very sleek Contemporary look, while white painted wood raised panel door styles can give a warm customary feeling in a kitchen. The flooring and countertop colors are the main accent areas and can drastically give distinct moods with distinct colors. A white customary style cabinet with wood flooring is very favorite and makes the kitchen feel very attractive and warm. Adding granite countertops to this combination again can totally convert the mood of the kitchen depending on the color and texture.

The color choice for appliances is also very leading and contributes to the total make statement. I would propose if you are planning a customary style kitchen use matching white wood front decorator panels on the dishwasher and refrigerator fronts as they will blend in best with the total look and use your choice for ovens, cook tops and sinks as stainless steel or black. In a Contemporary style kitchen many designers pick to accent all appliances with contrasting colors to generate a more dramatic look. In the past many population felt that white kitchen cabinets were only for showrooms and belief white was too much work to maintain. With today's new wood finishes and artificial materials white kitchen cabinetry is as easy to utter as any other stained color. White kitchen cabinets have been in style for the past 20 years and show no signs of going out of the style trends to date. It is much easier to convert color themes from time to time by changing window treatments, place mats and countertop accessories with new accent colors if you choose.

Kitchen develop Tips & Updates - Space Requirements & Recommendations

Kitchen create can be as easy as a level countertop with minimalist appliances, or as sophisticated as many sinks, dishwashers, cooktops & ovens in islands, under islands, over islands and more. Wine coolers can fit in the space of a dishwasher or be as tall as a pantry. Sinks can be troughs to be filled with ice to cool bottles, dinky for an entertainment center, double or triple bowls and an infinite collection of materials. Materials vary enormously, you can go green with countertops made of compressed recycled paper, clear glass, concrete, granite, limestone or the old standbys. Even within materials, such as granite, prices vary enormously depending on the exact stone chosen, and you can find some very inexpensive and beautiful stone if you look around. There's an infinite world of possibilities in the kitchen.

First we can start with some create basics. How much room do I need for a kitchen? Well, that depends on what you want in it. At it's most mini, you could fit a kitchen into a space 5'-4" x 7'-5", but there wouldn't be much beyond some very small appliances without a dishwasher. Let's look at some acceptable appliance and fixtures size ranges.

3 Inch French Door Refrigerator

Sinks: sinks come in many sizes, depths, materials and prices.  You can get them as narrow as 11" wide, but you probably want to plan at least a 30" - 36" cabinet, which can adapt a wide range of acceptable size kitchen sinks from 25" to 33" in a collection of styles (drop-in, undercounter, or exposed front cut out).  You will also need to conclude if you like a single, double or triple basin sink, as that will impact available sizes. There is also the option of putting the sink in an island, or putting an entertainment sink or trough sink in a secondary location.   Dishwashers: dishwashers are pretty easy because they are pretty acceptable at 24".   Cooking: again we have many choices, but sizes are a dinky easier.  You have a option of a free-standing or slide-in, in which the unit fits in between two cabinets, which is ordinarily 30" wide; a cooktop with separate ovens, (either below or in a separate cabinet), which comes acceptable in 30" or 36" sizes and fit into that size cabinet (although you can get pro style rangetops up to 48"); or a pro style range made by associates such as Viking, Wolfe or Ge Monogram which range from 24" all the way up to 60", and require essential ventilation. If you choose a separate oven in some kind of wall oven arrangement, acceptable oven widths are ordinarily 27" and 30", although they can be found up to 36".   Refrigerators: Choices, choices! Refrigerators are kind of two basic style decisions. Do you want one which is shallow (around 2') and is known as built-in or counter-depth, or do you want the slightly deeper original style where some of refrigerator sides are exposed. The shallower built-in's ordinarily come in 36", 42" & 48", while the deeper styles can be found just below 30" wide and up.   Faucets: Kitchen faucets, besides an practically infinite collection of styles, materials and colors, also have evolved. Faucets are now available just to fill the pots on your stove, have a option of pull-out sprayer heads or separate sprayer, singular or many handles, they are available with remote two button controls for a prep sink which allows for a quick sink rinse or a more faultless cleansing flow, and can fit any decor from ultra contemporary to renaissance.
How much countertop is enough? according to the National Kitchen and Bath relationship (Nkba) a total of 158 inches (13'-2") of countertop frontage (not in corners) is needed to adapt all kitchen uses. Try to allow a continuous section of countertop of at least 36 inches wide by 24 inches deep next to your original work area.  The Nkba recommends that you allow at least a 15 inch countertop area next to your oven and on the handle side of your refrigerator.

When talking about storage,  the Nkba recommends a total shelf/drawer frontage of 1400 inches for a small kitchen (less then 150sf), 1700 inches for a medium kitchen (151 to 350sf) and 2000 inches for a large kitchen (over 350sf). What does this mean? Does this mean that I need over 100' of shelves for a dinky kitchen? Well, yes, but, each drawer or each personel shelf should be counted towards the total. So if you have a 24" wide cabinet, 30" high with 3 shelves, you already have 6' of shelving. And if there were a 24" base cabinet with 4 drawers, there's another 8', so this one 24" area of your kitchen already has 14' of shelving.

What is "the work triangle"? The work triangle represents the three major work stations of the kitchen: the cooking area, the refrigerator and the sink. Measuring from the center of each, the maximum total length of the triangle should not be greater then 26 feet with the maximum leg no greater then 9 feet and the minimum not less then 4 feet. At 3D Home Decorator, there are genuinely 9ft and 4ft arrows that you can place in your floor plans to test distances.

Eating areas are not dinky to tables! Islands can adapt eating areas, cooking areas, washing up areas, or just prep areas. A typical kitchen counter is 34 inches to 36 inches high. A table is typically 30 inches high. So in planning kitchen eating areas, part of an island eating area can be dropped to table height or a table can be built as an extension of an island, left at counter height with stools, or raised to 42 inches for a high countertop eating area, which is often used to hide the work exterior of the counter behind it when viewed from the rest of the room.

How much space is ideal between a table and the wall? The Nkba  (National Kitchen & Bath Assoc.) recommends a minimum of 32 inches if no traffic needs to pass. 36 inches will let someone squeeze by, and 44 inches will let a someone walk by. If a wheelchair needs to pass, allow 60 inches.

It is best to vent your stove to the exterior if possible, but there are recirculating fans which will draw odors from the air if exterior venting is not available Do not put cooking surfaces under operable windows. If you are lucky sufficient to have an operable window above countertop height in your kitchen, place your sink under it instead of your stove. You can put a microwave with a fan compound over your stove, either exhausting to the outside, or recirculating the air.

Do not waste your kitchen corners. Upper cabinets can be decorative open shelving or have a two part door which opens both sides of the cabinets. Blind base cabinets can have lazy susans, which rotate for access, or base cabinets can have shelves which pull out, swing to the side and allow deeper shelves to be pulled out into accessible locations. While it is the hardest to access, the least costly clarification is just to have deep shelves or a easy lazy-susan (the rotating shelves). If you have an L shaped kitchen or island with a peninsula setup, doors can be located on both sides for accessibility.

Don't forget the space between the upper and lower cabinets. If you have more then sufficient countertop, the space between the upper and lower cabinets  (even in the corners) can have tambour doors (rollup doors) which can hide appliances or the space can be filled with open wine racks, leaving half the countertop exposed for the usual purposes.

Cabinets come in all sizes. Base cabinets come in every width from 3 inches up, and depths from 12 inches to 24 inches and larger, so they can fill all kinds of needs. 9 inch and 12 inch base pullouts for soda bottles and cans are overwhelming and effective for filling in narrower spaces. There are  base cabinets with pullouts for garbage and/or recycling, or with shelves that lift up for a Kitchenaid Mixmaster type of appliance. A 12 inch deep cabinet at the end of an island can be used for cookbooks or designed for wine storage. Don't forget full height pantries, which can have shelves, roll-out drawers, door attachments for spices or other specialty storage. Both lower and upper cabinets can be decoratively open for wine, books, glassware, and more. An 18" or 24" base could have a small wine or soda refrigerator built in. There are 6" high drawer cabinets or open shelves which can fit under your upper cabinets to furnish warehouse for smaller items.  Base cabinets too can have glass doors and fancy faces, which can be used to display special dishes.  With warehouse at a premium, kitchen cabinets have come to be very clever about gift maximum efficiency in minimum space.
