The Palace of Versailles, naturally called as Versailles, is a royal palace situated in Versailles, France. The palace was originally constructed in 1624 as a hunting lodge. In the year 1660, the king of France Louis Xiv decided to convert the hunting lodge as a palace. This was done to make the King's dream of establishing a new center for the royal court turn into a reality. The building of The Palace of Versailles was headed by architect André Le Nôtre with Charles Le Brun as the painter-decorator. Versailles was completed in 1688.
The Palace became not only the new location of the royal court but also the home of the French nobility hence becoming the center of the French government. The King himself lived in the Palace. There were government offices in the Versailles and thousands of homes for French people as well. By the King's insistence that noble men spend time at the Palace, Louis was able to keep the nobility from resisting his efforts in centralizing the government of France.
